Identify These Boy/Girl Bands
9. Following numerous unsuccessful auditions in their quest to secure a record deal, what did the Primettes change their name to in 1961?

Correct Incorrect The Supremes originated in 1959 as the Primettes. Florence Ballard enlisted her best friend Mary Wilson, who, in turn, brought in Diana Ross to join the group. Their formation was a response to the prevalence of male vocal groups during that era. Despite initial difficulties in securing a record deal, they persevered, and in January 1961, Berry Gordy extended a contract offer to them. Gordy suggested a name change, leading to their adoption of the name the Supremes. While their success waned in the 1970s, they were honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.
