5 Celebrity Couples Who Went from Friends to Lovers
When one celebrity gets super close to another, it's only a matter of time before fans start shipping them together. Often, celebrities are really just friends (think Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet; Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson; or Taylor Swift and Carly Krause), but other times, fans are actually right. Check here and find out which celebrities went from friends to lovers.
1. Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes
Cabello and Mendes first met in 2014, when they both opened for Austin Mahone on his Austin Mahone: Live Tour, and Cabello was a member of Fifth Harmony then. They became good friends, and by November 2015, they launched their first collaboration, "I Know What You Did Last Summer."
After their second collaboration, "Senorita," in June 2019, the couple were seen kissing on July 4, confirming they were in a relationship after years of fan speculation. On September 6, 2019, Cabello spoke with Elle about always loving Mendes at their Women in Music Event. "I love him with all my heart and always have," she said. "We've known each other for a long time..." Their relationship didn't last long. In November 2021, they announced their split, but remain friends.
2. Zendaya and Tom Holland
Zendaya and Holland first met on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016. They also became good friends with their partner Jacob Batalon. But like any romantic characters of a blockbuster movie franchise, rumors began to surface that they were dating in the summer of 2017. However, the pair didn't start dating publicly until the summer of 2021 and three films after they were caught kissing in Holland's car.
Fast forward to 2022 and rumor has it that the couple have bought a house together in London. The low-key couple has also started going out together regularly, such as holding hands after leaving a New York hotel at the Uncharted premiere on February 17.
3. Justin and Hailey Bieber
Back in 2009, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin met through her actor father Stephen Baldwin. Although Bieber gave her the infamous hair flip and handshake, they've remained just friends since then. In 2015, Bieber and Baldwin made headlines by posting a photo of them kissing on New Year's Eve on Instagram. By June 2018, the pair were seen holding hands and showing off PDA, suggesting they were taking a second try on their relationship.
Their relationship developed quickly. In July 2018, Bieber proposed to Baldwin, and just two months later, the couple married. She took the singer's last name, and together they adopted a dog.
4. Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott
Neither Jenner nor Scott can remember when or where they met, but they first met at Coachella in 2017, when they were already dating. Jenner told GQ in July 2018: "We've known each other all the time, it's like we hang out with each other -- I mean, we just have mutual friends."
Jenner and Scott welcomed their first child, Stormy Webster, in February 2018. Sadly, they split in October 2019 and are back as friends and co-parents. But they rekindled their relationship around the spring of 2021, welcoming their second child, Wolf Webster, in January 2022.
5. Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato
Jonas and Lovato became friends on the set of "Camp Rock" in 2008. By the time the sequel came out in September 2010, they were already a couple. However, their public relationship was short-lived and they only dated until the end of 2010.
Since then, both of them have moved on. However, Jonas and Lovato still seem to get on well. Lovato toured with Jonas' brother Nick in 2016. Then, in October 2021, Lovato and Jonas reunited at a Halloween party and even took selfies together.
