8 Ways to Treat Snoring

Sleep is supposed to restore energy, but sometimes it's overwhelmed by your partner's snoring. In fact, about 45% adults snore while sleeping.

Snoring is actually very harmful to us. Long-term snoring will disturb our endogenous hormone secretion and damage human tissues and organs. In severe cases, it will cause brain hypoxia, blood hypoxia, myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, etc. Therefore, the basic problem of snoring must be treated in time, and one should not feel that snoring is a trivial matter.

During sleep, the muscles of the lips, tongue, cheeks, and jaws cannot be arbitrarily matched to form various cavities, but there is always a large channel - the throat. If this channel narrows and becomes a gap, then the sound will be produced when the air passes through, which is snoring. Therefore, fat people, people with loose throat muscles, and people with throat inflammation are most prone to snoring. Don't worry, the following eight ways may help you to fight to snore.

1. Pay attention to your sleeping position

If you sleep on your stomach or on your back, you may squeeze your airway and cause a blockage in your throat. At this time, your breathing will be less smooth, and you may snore. You should choose to lie on the side to reduce the obstruction of the throat, and the airway will be more open during sleep, thereby reducing the problem of snoring.

2. Use a humidifier in the bedroom

Snoring may be due to dry throat. If indoors are relatively dry, it often leads to a blockage of the throat and snoring. At this time, you can add a humidifier to keep the air moist, reduce the problem of dry throat, and relieve the phenomenon of snoring.

3. Choose the right pillow

Hard pillows can be said to be the accomplices of snoring, because the texture is hard and the elasticity is poor, and it is not easy to deform under the pillow. Soft pillows are not good either. This is because when you lie down on your back, your head is tilted back, and the base of your tongue falls back, which does not provide good support for your neck, and makes the throat muscles excessively tense and aggravates the degree of snoring.

4. Don't select too soft mattress

A soft mattress is comfortable to lie on, but it is not good for our spine and snorers. The mattress for snorers should not be too soft, and it is better to choose a harder mattress.

5. Don't smoke or drink before going to bed

Smoking and drinking can easily increase blood pressure, loosen the muscles of the mouth, and narrow the airway, which may cause inflammation and swelling of the throat. It's bad for breathing, and it's easy to snore. So try not to smoke or drink before going to bed.

6. Drink some honey and olive oil before bed

Honey and olive oil can promote the moisturizing of the throat and the unobstructed airway, and reduce the symptoms of snoring. However, due to the strong taste of honey and olive oil, it should be appropriate and don't drink too much.

7. Take more exercise

If you are too fat, it is easy to cause the throat to be squeezed, and you can only rely on your mouth to breathe when you sleep, which is easy to cause snoring. Therefore, proper exercise can lose weight, relieve soft palate drooping, nasal polyps hypertrophy, and other problems, also reduce the symptoms of snoring.

8. Remove allergens from the bedroom

Sometimes snoring can also be caused by allergens in the bedroom. For example, an allergic reaction caused by dust mites in the pillow may cause you to snore. So it's a good idea to look in the bedroom for possible allergies such as flowers, plants, pets, etc. In addition, clean bedding and wash pillows every other week and change sheets once a month to reduce dust mites and allergens.
